In a good example of coordinated blog campaigning Redlands LibDems and Katesgrove LibDems simultaneously published a report on their efforts to prevent empty properties from further spoiling Reading.
Reading East PPC Cllr Gareth Epps explains how officers allowed former policies to lapse under a Labour administration which had become stale.
He praises the newly installed Empty Homes Officer and invites readers to come and visit 5 separate locations in the ward he represents to see what needs doing.
In Redlands ward Cllr Daisy Benson draws attention to three prominent empty properties, while explaining how she has been working to improve the situation.
Between them they explain that the fact of increasing homelessness in town is at a time when the number of properties vacant for more than six months has also increased is a scandal which should motivate anyone to take action.

Sorry to get in the way of your Lib Dem campaigning, but the Green Party has also been working on this issue. Most recently to get empty council owned buildings back into use.
ReplyDeleteRob,
ReplyDeletethere is a large measure of difference between writing a press release which expresses your 'outrage' and actually working with the responsible officer.
But comparing the evidence, you appear to be giving equal weight to advertising your electoral position as the issue, whereas neither of the two LibDem references mention elections at all.
So please, could you be a bit less sanctimonious and try not projecting your own inaccuracies onto others?
I'd also like to point out that this blog is independently published, as indicated by the disclaimer below.
Rob White has a half-fair point. But the Lib Dems have actually changed the policy of Reading Council - from not giving a toss about empty properties under Labour to doing something about it.
ReplyDeleteAbove Anon, you hit the nail on the head! Council policy has been changed, and not just to get in the newspapers but actually for all the right reasons!
ReplyDeleteI don't care if this is a Lib Dem campagin or not - a group of people did the right thing, which is a lot more than can be said for the other two/three parties!
I fear Rob White will be as vacuous as some other mainstream politicains - in that respect he is in NO way radical. I'd like to see where his endless PR will get him if he does get elected! He annoys me and I'm sure he annoys a lot of other people - Wake up Park ward!!!
Do the councils understand the real reason behind the 500,000 to 1,000,000 million empty homes in the country?
ReplyDeleteAnd do they understand that this means we do not need to build more homes... anywhere?
